More than 500 members of City of Hope's professional salon group presented industry veteran Carmen DePasquale with the 2008 Spirit of Life Award. The award was presented at a dinner held at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on July 14.
The Spirit of Life Award is City of Hope's most prestigious honor and recognizes outstanding philanthropic commitment. City of Hope is a leading biomedical research and treatment institution for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
As the National Professional Salon Industry's 2008 honoree, DePasquale created a fundraising campaign called "Beauty Can Cure," which brought together the entire beauty industry including manufacturers, distributors, salons, spas and beauty schools. Collectively, the industry worked together to raise over $1.2 million dollars for City of Hope.
"I am both honored and humbled to be the recipient of the City of Hope's 2008 Spirit of Life Award," said DePasquale. "Our industry's long history of joining together to make an impact in supporting these fundraising efforts is inspiring. With the success of the "Beauty Can Cure" campaign, we are truly making a difference in the lives of patients and their families across the country."
