CUT IT OUT® The Beauty Community Against Domestic Abuse is a program dedicated to mobilizing salon / spa professionals, students and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States. CUT IT OUT® builds awareness of domestic abuse through awareness materials to be displayed in salons, the “Give the Power Back” initiative to involve salons in helping local domestic violence agencies, and training salon / spa professionals and students to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to resources.

CUT IT OUT® trainers are domestic violence victim advocates who visit schools, salons and other approved locations to conduct one-hour seminars to provide information about domestic violence and how to respond to someone who may be a victim. Become a Trainer.

This grant application is for U.S. beauty industry licensed professionals who are domestic abuse survivors and in need of assistance in getting back on their feet, either financially or with employment. If approved, we assist with financial
grants and/or assistance with employment placement within the professional beauty industry.
There are many ways to support CUT IT OUT® and help the beauty professionals fight domestic violence in our communities. With proper training on how to recognize the signs of abuse and safely refer victims to help, salon professionals can become invaluable and influential community partners in the fight against domestic abuse. Stylists, esthetician and make-up artists are in the ideal position to recognize when something’s just not quite right with their clients. Physical signs of abuse like bruises and cuts, or outward behaviors, like self-blame, sudden lifestyle changes and irregular appointments, can indicate that a client or colleague is in trouble. Salons are often one of the few places victims can safely and confidentially share that they need help.
