How to transition from beauty school to a career in 4 simple steps

You’ve done it! You have finally graduated beauty school. With all the excitement can come a bit of nerves, but as you navigate your way through, you’ll be able to land a job and start a successful career. We’ll walk you through four steps that will help you transition from being a student to being a beauty professional.

  1. DESIGN A RESUME
After years of practice and several hundred (or thousand) hours of training, you’re ready to put all your skills together on a resume. This resume will be helpful for landing a job, so your future employer can see all the skills that you have developed. On your resume, make sure you provide your educational and professional experiences, any certifications or licenses you earned, your top skills, and more. Take this opportunity to show what you can do and impress salons and spas.
  2. NETWORK EFFECTIVELY
Once you’ve designed and put together your resume, the next step is to network with other beauty professionals and salon owners. If you don’t already have a job lined up, now is the perfect time to reach out to others in your industry and community to learn of any job openings. Drop your resume off at salons where you’d like to work and introduce yourself to those working there. Networking may take a bit more time and effort than the other steps, but you will be grateful that you invested in this step.
  3. PURCHASE INSURANCE
Whether you are renting a booth in a salon or are working from your home, you will want to make sure that you have a policy in place before seeing your first client. At Beauty and Bodywork Insurance, we know you’ve worked hard to be a beauty professional; however, accidents can still happen. When those accidents occur, you’ll be grateful you have an insurance policy that meets your needs. Beauty and Bodywork Insurance offers an annual policy of $96 per year, which can be purchased online here. Contact our licensed insurance agents with any questions you may have.
  4. BUILD UP YOUR CLIENTELE
Once you’ve landed a job, your primary focus should be expanding your clientele. There are several ways that you can do this—word-of-mouth marketing, social media, professional website, business cards, and more. You can get creative with this step. Perhaps you love making videos. Post video tutorials on your social media platforms, so you gain a following and show your audience the skills that you have. Choose a method that will work most effectively for you so you can get the most out of your efforts.

WORK HARD!
There you have it! We know the transition from student to professional may be intimidating, but with these four steps, you’ll be able to get started and grow your business. Put together a professional resume, network with beauty professionals in your area, purchase an insurance policy, and build up your clientele. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!
